CVCC Boosted by Major Funding for Manufacturing Programs and Campus Upgrades

Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) was awarded a $1.5 million grant by the U.S. Department of Labor to enhance its advanced manufacturing and work-based learning programs. Lynchburg Considers Extending Youth Curfew

Lynchburg officials are debating a yearlong extension of a curfew for those 17 and younger, initially enacted after the tragic shooting of three young people, including a six-year-old. Since its inception in May 2023, the curfew has seen relatively few violations, suggesting its effectiveness in keeping youth safe during late hours. The extension proposition has garnered support from the majority of the City Council, though it faces opposition from those concerned about overreach into parental rights and responsibilities. If approved, the curfew would be in effect until February 2026, with allowances for work and errands under parental guidance.

Students and Artist Collaborate on Museum Exhibition

On Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025, Randolph College students participated in an educational experience at the Maier Museum, where they were taught the precise art of installing art exhibitions. They were involved in setting up 'Ann Holsberry: Navigating Sea and Stars,' the latest exhibition to grace the museum. Artist Ann Holsberry and Laura McManus, the Curator of Education, were also on hand, examining weather charts related to the exhibit. The students learned various installation techniques, including the use of white gloves for handling art and lasers for alignment. This hands-on activity provided practical insights into the meticulous care and planning involved in art display.

Thousands of Virginians start their day with Daily Lynchburg

“Reading the newsletter has become a really positive daily habit for me. I read it while drinking my coffee and planning the day. It saves me a ton of time, but it's really enjoyable too. It's great to have the news filtered down to just a handful of critical events everyday that actually matters to me. I also like reading the community profiles. They interview people locally like teachers, politicians, and small business owners. It's hard to find this anywhere else.”

“I'm a senior citizen here in Lynchburg, and this newsletter is like a lifeline. I don't have the attention span these days to read the paper, and Facebook is a mess. This newsletter keeps me informed, without taking the whole day from me.”

Matthew K.

“I like how this newsletter keeps me connected with our community. It's great to have a dedicated source that focuses on what's going on locally. So many news companies are focused on huge attention-grabbing national headlines. But, besides the entertainment value, it's not really relevant to my day-to-day. Also it's great the newsletter is free.”

“This newsletter has been a game-changer for my business. It not only highlights local news but also features small businesses like mine. It's a great platform for local exposure.”

“I'm a parent, and it's apparent how busy that makes me. I LOVE newspapers (especially the smell), but I never have time to read it anymore. So thank god this newsletter exists, and I can read it in a few minutes. If anything is really critical or catches my eye, I can always spend more time reading into each piece of news, but it isn't usually necessary.”
