  • Delta Star donated a new $54,000 van to Lynchburg Daily Bread on Tuesday, Jan. 20 to support daily meal deliveries to 22 outreach sites in Amherst, Bedford, Campbell, and Appomattox counties; the nonprofit uses four vans to serve an average of 875 meals per day.  WSET

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Frankly Delicious Dogs — a hot dog stand on Forest Road — closed after operating for two months next to Mission Thrift. The owners announced the closure on Facebook Tuesday and are now weighing future options.  WSET

  • E.C. Glass High School installed metal detectors Tuesday — a new safety measure to improve student security — and officials said screening delays are expected while students adjust, with tardiness excused.  WSET

  • Amherst Town Council approved a state permit to withdraw water from the Buffalo River on Jan. 14 following lengthy negotiations with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).  The News & Advance
