  • The Salvation Army warming shelter in Lynchburg now offers cots, blankets, hot meals and essentials like toiletries and showers (with separate rooms for men, women, and families) to keep out the winter cold. It opens overnight, closing at 8 a.m. and reopening at 7 p.m. Sunday.  WSET
  • Residents in the ABC13 viewing area experienced power outages Sunday as AEP reported over 6,000 outages by 9:54 a.m. (516 in Grayson County and 571 in Smyth County) amid a winter storm that began Saturday evening.  WSET

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Central Virginia woke up on Sunday to find snow blanketing the area, and Lynchburg Public Works is deploying plows and salt today to keep roads safe during the winter storm; motorists should drive carefully as conditions remain wintry.  WSET

  • On Jan. 25, APCO discussed how recent weather stressed regional power systems and announced plans to upgrade response protocols for local residents. The utility aims to strengthen service reliability in the coming weeks.  WDBJ7
