  • TR Boiler Room Steakhouse will open Tuesday, Feb. 10 in downtown, offering upscale dining featuring full-blood Wagyu beef from Traber Ranch and a historic interior that honors Lynchburg’s heritage. The restaurant will operate Tuesday through Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m.  WSET

CULTURE NEWS

  • Arts leader Geoffrey Kershner from Lynchburg cautioned that Roanoke’s plan to convert the Berglund Center into an entertainment district may harm established local arts venues + he urged that investment support small, sustainable institutions rather than casino-style draws.  Cardinal News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lynchburg school board voted to ask the city to fund a one-time $1,000 bonus for division employees during the current fiscal year — city officials will review the request soon.  The News & Advance

  • Liberty University School of Law will offer free income tax assistance to qualifying residents on select evenings from February through April (provided by law students) at its Lynchburg campus. Residents should verify eligibility requirements before attending.  The News & Advance

  • VMI cadets and local community members are watching two bills that could change the institute’s funding and governance as legislators debate their impact. Cadets say their input helped amend HB 1377, which creates a task force to review VMI and now awaits Senate approval before reaching the Governor.  WSET
  • Former Delegate Charles Poindexter, a respected advocate and farmer, died Wednesday at age 83 after 14 years in the House of Delegates. Local leaders praised his work on agricultural policy + national defense technology, and funeral arrangements remain pending.  Cardinal News
