COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Starhill Boards announced on Feb.9 that it is preparing Valentine’s Day events for local celebration, with details (coming soon) to be released on Feb.14. The planning aims to bring Lynchburg residents together for the holiday.  WDBJ7
  • Riverfront Park amphitheater in Lynchburg is nearing completion after more than two decades of planning and a harsh winter; the $8 million project has its main systems in place and will host its first concert by rock band Everclear on May 8.  WSET

CULTURE NEWS

  • A Black History Celebration themed 'Do Justice, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly' is planned in Lynchburg to honor local heritage with community speakers and cultural performances. Organizers promise more details soon (location and schedule to be announced).  WDBJ7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers are reviewing bills to lower prescription drug costs and boost pricing transparency. A House bill asking for more data from the state’s single pharmacy benefit manager is in committee while a Senate bill to set up a Prescription Drug Affordability Board passed on Friday.  Cardinal News
  • Virginians filing their 2025 state tax returns will see a new voluntary donation option on refund forms to support the Virginia Board for the Blind and Vision Impaired. Introduced by Delegate Wendell Walker, the measure will fund a five-day summer camp for children and aid programs for education and training.  WDBJ7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Virginia health officials reported six measles cases in 2026 (five in the Northern region and one in the Central region). They warn that numbers may continue to rise and advise residents to get vaccinated against the highly contagious illness.  WSET
  • Hometown Health introduced a new tax return option (designed for improved accessibility) to support blind and visually impaired residents in Lynchburg, offering tailored benefits to simplify filing. The update was announced Feb. 9.  WDBJ7
  • Dr. Bryant Self (Carillion Clinic) advises residents to know their numbers and add regular exercise to help lower heart attack and stroke risks. He recommends checking blood pressure and cholesterol with a doctor.  WSLS 10
