COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Construction began Monday at College Park to upgrade its stormwater system from a one-year to a 10-year storm event—F&B Contractors will work 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on new pipes, ponds, culverts and native plantings for about 12 months, and the park will reopen once all improvements are complete.  WSET
  • StepStone Family & Youth Services launched a blanket drive yesterday to support foster children in our community—local residents are encouraged to donate blankets to provide extra warmth during the colder months.  WDBJ7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lynchburg City Schools is hosting a public town hall where families, staff, students, and residents can help shape its 2026-31 strategic plan. The meeting will take place at a local school facility (details forthcoming).  The News & Advance

HEALTH NEWS

  • Horizon Behavioral Health is launching a positive sign campaign with local schools to support teens as data shows 42% have felt sad or hopeless, providing free resources like medication lock boxes (and telehealth support) to help families spot warning signs. The group will host a youth mental health first aid event on Feb. 27.  WSET
  • Lynchburg doctors advise residents to perform self-checks between routine screenings to catch unusual signs (such as lumps or skin changes) that might require follow-up exams.  WDBJ7
