COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Natural Bridge State Park invites young anglers to join its annual Kids Fishing Day on Saturday, April 4 from 7:30 a.m. to noon at Cedar Creek. Children must bring their own gear and enjoy free admission if 12 and younger (a paying adult must accompany participating children).  WSLS 10
  • Local Iranian community members in Lynchburg are worried about relatives in Iran as experts say limited contact and a potential rise in gas prices may soon impact local life, though they remain cautiously hopeful amid ongoing uncertainty.  WSET

CULTURE NEWS

  • Consumer Reports advises Lynchburg shoppers to look for deals as stores clear winter items and lure customers with spring discounts this month. Buyers should compare prices on vacuums & air purifiers to boost savings as they plan for upcoming seasonal needs.  WSLS 10

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Virginia Department of Forestry relaunched its Throwing Shade VA program to offer a $25 discount (valid for plants priced $50 or more) on native trees and shrubs at participating nurseries. Buyers can scan a QR code or complete a survey to claim the discount.  WSLS 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Spanberger issued a flag order Monday that directs state and local buildings to fly U.S. and Virginia flags at half-staff in memory of Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr.; flags will be lowered at sunrise Saturday and remain half-staff until sunset.  WSET
  • Lynchburg’s transit board will vote at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the GLTC Transfer Station on Kemper Street on suspending Sunday bus service because a 20% driver shortage hinders full operations. If approved, the change will take effect in April and affect fixed-route, Flex rides, and paratransit services.  Cardinal News
  • Gov. Abigail Spanberger ordered state and local flags to be flown at half-staff on Sunday, March 7 — honoring Rev. Jesse Jackson, who died Feb. 17 — with flags lowered at sunrise until sunset.  WSLS 10
