COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lynchburg Parks and Recreation began a $1.6 million lighting upgrade at Peaks View Park on Monday to extend park hours and improve safety. New automated lights will be installed over the baseball fields, basketball courts & tennis courts and are expected to be completed in 90 days.  WSET
  • Marian Anderson, a 102-year-old Forest resident who grew up during the Great Depression and raised six children, shared her advice and life lessons today.  The News & Advance

CULTURE NEWS

  • For Women’s History Month, 10 News is spotlighting women-owned businesses across the region, with Lynchburg’s Barb’s Dream Hut + Batter Bar among the featured local shops. Residents can also submit suggestions to have more businesses recognized.  WSLS 10

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A Colorado company will develop a data center in Pittsylvania County, promising 2,050 jobs over 30 years and an average salary of at least $80,500 (tax incentives remain under debate) as state leaders negotiate incentives.  Cardinal News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bedford County School Board Chair Christopher Daniels stated on Tuesday that closing Stewartsville Elementary is being considered because enrollment is low (about 47% capacity) and rising costs are pressuring the school division. Community input will help guide future plans to avoid larger class sizes, and no final decision has been made.  WDBJ7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Cherry trees from the Okame variety burst into bloom along Fifth and Church streets in downtown Lynchburg, offering a preview of spring. Urban Forester Nicholas Meyer said the 150 trees are at peak bloom and that other varieties will soon add more color to the city.  WSET

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A $1B transmission line project spanning 9 counties is gathering community input with sessions held in Appomattox (March 10) and planned in Lynchburg on March 23 and online on March 16. Dominion and Valley Link will propose a route to the Virginia SCC in the fall, with completion expected by 2029.  WSET

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hometown Health reported record numbers of people were prescribed ADHD medication as of March 10, showing a sharp rise in treatment that local researchers will study to gauge its impact on care.  WDBJ7

  • Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer announced that industrial property at 314 Jefferson Ridge Parkway, known as RiversEdge Logistic Center at Ivy Creek Innovation Center, sold for $17.5M in Lynchburg.  The News & Advance
