- ➤ Community partners gathered last night in Blackwater Run off Rivermont Avenue for the groundbreaking ceremony of the 2026 St. Jude Dream Home by LG Flint after nearly $7 million was raised to help children fighting cancer; the 2,900 sqft home will feature 4 bedrooms + an open kitchen. WSET
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Lynchburg firefighters rescued a dog and a cat from a house fire on Twin Oak Drive early Tuesday morning. They used a special pet oxygen mask to treat the dog for smoke inhalation, kept both residents safe, and the dog is now receiving care at an emergency veterinary clinic. WSET

- ➤ Shannon Wentz has spent 28 years at Amherst County Public Schools as an instructional specialist for adaptive programs and transition coordinator. She remains a steadfast advocate for student success. The News & Advance
- ➤ Joy Powers, a Goodview mom, filed a motion in Bedford County Circuit Court on Tuesday arguing the school board broke state code by rushing the public notice for Stewartsville Elementary’s closing. The school will end operations on May 22, with many parents saying the process was rushed (per the suit). WSET

- ➤ Gov. Spanberger is reviewing a bill that would legalize recreational marijuana sales starting in January 2027, which could boost jobs and tax revenue+ local dispensaries such as Rise Dispensary are set to transition while safety research continues. WSET

- ➤ UVA Health will close its Appomattox Dialysis Center on April 18, affecting 39 patients who must transfer care to other clinics in Lynchburg, Amherst, or Farmville—most have already made plans. The decision comes as part of a consolidation to address staffing challenges and rising costs. WSET
