ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Lynchburg police responded at 6:40 a.m. on March 25 to a motorcycle crash on Route 29 near the Kemper Street exit where 33-year-old Maquale Moon of Campbell County lost his life and are investigating the scene. WFXR TV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Lynchburg police are investigating the death of an infant after responders found the unresponsive baby on the 600 block of Leesville Road on Wednesday at 4:32 p.m.—emergency personnel took the child to Lynchburg General Hospital where the baby was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. WSET
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Virginia Department of Historic Resources designated nine historic sites as Virginia Landmarks at its quarterly meeting in Richmond on March 20. The designation includes local sites such as Lynchburg's Hunton Branch YMCA, which has served as an active community center since 1956. WSLS 10
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Glenn Youngkin signed a bill introduced by Del. Wendell Walker that makes it a Class 5 felony for landlords who use housing or financial threats to coerce tenants into sexual acts—this law, prompted by Lynchburg cases, will take effect July 1 and also imposes harsher penalties for crimes against minors. - ➤ Today, T3Medic will host a free hands-on event at 147 Mill Ridge where community members can learn choking prevention skills from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.—the training will focus on children and people with special needs while offering free pizza and drinks. WSLS 10
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Lynchburg Hillcats under new ownership will begin their season with a game on April 4 in Fayetteville and a home opener on April 8. Major stadium upgrades will begin after the current season—adding a carnival area for children, 500 new seats, improved nets, an enclosed event space for 300, and a 25% concession price drop—and are planned to be ready by next season.
