CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Lynchburg woman Ashley Biggs-Neeley pleaded guilty to charges for knife attacks on officers in May and September 2023 — her sentencing will be on Nov. 19 at 1:30 p.m. WSLS 10
- ➤ Salem police are looking for Stewart Graham, a 45-year-old man who was last seen on March 17th on Braeburn Drive and who is 6 ft 1 in tall, weighs 280 pounds, and has brown hair and hazel eyes — call 911 if you have information. WDBJ7
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Centra will hold its spring career fair Tuesday, April 15th from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Liberty Mountain Conference Center, where three career stations will offer resume writing, career coaching and application process guidance while job seekers may have onsite interviews for healthcare positions such as nursing, medical office, and pharmacy roles. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Heritage and E.C. Glass high schools went on a scheduled hold Tuesday morning when Lynchburg Police searched the schools for drugs after parents received vague email and phone notifications. One parent, Catherine Adams—who has two students at E.C. Glass—said she felt scared by the lack of details while district officials urged parents to check backpacks and discuss school items with their children. WSET
- ➤ The Lynchburg School Board approved phase one of a plan to close T.C. Miller Elementary School on April 8 — the school will be converted into a youth education center. The board will vote on remaining phases after a new superintendent and board members are appointed. WDBJ7
- ➤ Some Lynchburg parents are exploring other school options as school leaders prepare to vote on a plan that will close TC Miller Elementary and convert it into a pre-k hub to house 10 classes while saving $1 million. The public hearing is set for tomorrow at 5 p.m.—with five board members already supporting the proposal—raising concerns about losing the school’s unique culture. WSET

- ➤ Renovation at Riverfront Park in downtown Lynchburg is ahead of schedule under an eight million dollar effort. Construction crews are finishing an indoor restroom facility and playground in a few weeks while a state-of-the-art amphitheater is set to open by spring 2026. WSET

- ➤ Women’s Health of Central Virginia has launched a new weight loss program called Improving Health—led by Dr. Christine A. Marraccini—that gives patients a personal plan with help on diet, exercise, a health diary, behavior changes and medicine management. WFXR TV
- ➤ Mainspring Recovery held a ribbon cutting for its new downtown facility on Court St. last Tuesday, April 8, which provides residential treatment programs for substance abuse recovery. The multi-million dollar center offers up to 111 beds and a full schedule of counseling, meals, fitness and case management — filling a long-standing need in Lynchburg. WSET
