Sandusky Park has reopened, but Blackwater Creek Athletic Area and the Dog Park remain closed due to flood damage; the athletic field will be restored as a natural area and the Dog Park will relocate to higher ground with a reopening expected in June or July after 60 to 90 days of reconstruction. Creekside Trail west of Peninsula Street and Langhorne Road is still closed while its eastern section will reopen the week of May 1 when Ivy Creek Bridge repairs are complete—signage marks the closures—.

A man from Lynchburg died from his injuries after a house fire on Warren Avenue last week, and officials said five residents and one firefighter were injured when rescuers got two people out of the burning house while investigators are checking the cause.

The Lynchburg City School Board voted Tuesday to close T.C.

Miller as a K-5 school at the end of the 2024-25 year (6-3 vote) after a public hearing where community members urged a reconsideration of the plan. Today, the City of Lynchburg’s Department of Water Resources released its updated draft of the James River Bacteria TMDL Action Plan for public comment until midnight, April 25.
