- ➤ Campbell County Parks & Rec announced several upcoming events, including weekend Cornhole at William Campbell Middle School Gym from 1 to 6 p.m. for ages 18+ with no registration, Youth Baton at Tomahawk Elementary School (email [email protected] for details), and Yellow Branch Challengers T-Ball at Yellow Branch Elementary School Gym from April 10 to June 19 (call 434-942-5649 for information). GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Amherst County Board of Supervisors received a presentation on GO Virginia, an initiative by senior business leaders designed to boost private-sector growth and job creation through state incentives and regional collaboration among business, education and government. The report shows that 15 projects have received $4.1 million in state funds with $5.1 million in matching funds, creating 161 jobs—further plans for community training and redevelopment are underway. - ➤ Melissa Lucy, CEO of Horizon Behavioral Health, said the new crisis receiving center at 1204 Fenwick Drive in Lynchburg is ahead of schedule with its renovation expected to be complete this fall in October. The facility will open in March 2026 and will offer tiered mental health treatment including walk-in evaluations and a 16-bed residential stabilization unit. The News & Advance

- ➤ On Saturday, thousands of runners competed in the Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon in Roanoke, taking part in 10k, half marathon and full marathon races on a course that climbed over 7,000 feet.
