CRIME NEWS
- ➤ An EBT card scam has left many Lynchburg families short on food money after one victim lost over $600 on April 8 and officials reported tens of thousands of dollars are stolen each month — lawmakers said a future Farm Bill may help fix the problem since stolen funds are not reimbursed. WSET
- ➤ Authorities arrested Glenn Hensley, 38, Saturday night in Madison Heights after deputies found drugs and an inactive homemade bomb during a probation violation warrant execution—allowing for safe handling. WSET
- ➤ The Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office is searching the Sallings and Forge Road areas today for 39-year-old Dustin Butler, who was last seen in December 2022, and teams from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management—Conservation Police, State Police and local rescue groups are tracking cell phone data to cover the area and plan to return if more ground needs checking. - ➤ On April 14th, Bruce Robertson was sworn in as the first black Electoral Board member in Appomattox County—he previously served in the Air Force and Army. He said he was honored to verify ballots and check election equipment to ensure smooth operations at the polls. WSET
- ➤ Thirty-two people were sworn in as U.S. citizens at Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest on April 14—attendees from 17 countries celebrated the ceremony held in partnership with the Blue Ridge Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. WSET

- ➤ After a unanimous vote by the General Assembly, a new law will remove extra costs for more breast tests when a mammogram shows issues— a change praised by the Susan G. Komen group. The law will take effect in July and applies only to state-regulated health plans. WSET
