- ➤ College Lake was transformed from a large body of water into a restored stream and wetlands after the dam was removed on April 16, lowering flood risks and creating new outdoor spaces. The project, years in the making after severe flooding in 2018, now benefits safety and the community. WSET

- ➤ HUD Secretary Scott Turner will deliver the keynote speech for Liberty University’s 2026 commencement on May 15 in Lynchburg. He will address one of the largest graduating classes to set the stage for future opportunities. The News & Advance

- ➤ Lynchburg officials imposed a full burn ban today — the order stops all outdoor burning as dry, windy weather raises fire risk; authorities will review the ban daily. WSET
- ➤ Drivers face detours and delays downtown as three major projects affect 5th Street, the John Lynch Bridge, and Main Street. City officials say repairs and water pipe updates will finish by June for 5th and Main, while the bridge project ends in December. WSET

- ➤ Hundreds will gather at Percival's Island tomorrow for the Lynchburg Heart Walk, with registration at 9 a.m. and the walk at 10 a.m. The event features survivor recognition, team photos, music + drum line performance to fund the American Heart Association's work against heart disease and stroke.
