COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After 19-year-old Cash Gaudio was fatally shot in his driveway in September 2024, his family established the Live Like Cash Gaudio Foundation to honor his memory. The foundation will award scholarships to student athletes who share his values—details on the first recipient will air on ABC13 at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 21.  WSET

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Lynchburg fire crews battled a heavy fire early Thursday morning at a vacant home in the 2400 block of Hurdle Hill Road — a passerby called 911, the blaze was controlled within 30 minutes, and no injuries were reported as the fire marshal’s office investigates.  WSET
  • A vacant home on the 2400 block of Hurdle Hill Road was damaged after a fire Thursday morning — Lynchburg Fire Department responded after passersby spotted the blaze, contained it within 10 minutes and confirmed the building had been unoccupied for months with no injuries reported.  WDBJ7

CRIME NEWS

  • A Lynchburg man was sentenced on Wednesday afternoon to 12 years in prison after a jury trial in August 2023 found him guilty of assaulting a woman and forcing sex acts on her.  The News & Advance

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Delta Star Inc. will invest $35 million to expand its Lynchburg transformer manufacturing facility — adding 300 jobs to the local workforce. Governor Glenn Youngkin announced the project yesterday — with support from local partners as the expansion aims to meet rising energy needs.  WSET

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 17, 2025 the City of Lynchburg published public notices stating that the 302 Smyth Street project has no significant environmental impact and will request HOME Program funds on or after May 5 to demolish an old one story residence and build a new single family home; the city is accepting public comments until that date.  City of Lynchburg
  • Starting May 7, U.S. flyers will need a Real ID to board domestic flights — without one, access to certain federal facilities and nuclear power plants will be restricted. The Virginia DMV has issued over 4 million Real IDs since October 2018 — many offices are overwhelmed with appointment requests as the deadline nears.  WSLS 10
