- ➤ The Hill City celebrates the grand opening of the Lynchburg Amphitheater at Riverfront Park today at 4 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a free community concert by BigFoot County at 5:30 p.m. at 1100 Jefferson Street. WSLS
- ➤ The Moneta Volunteer Fire Department rescued a goat trapped 60 feet down in an abandoned well on FeldSpar Road; crews worked for about 30 minutes before returning the animal safely to its owner. WSET
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Late Thursday, the Lynchburg Fire Department rescued nine people trapped in an elevator at the 7 Rooftop Bar (1208 Commerce Street) after the car stalled between floors for over two hours. Everyone is safe with no injuries reported. WSLS 10
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ A veteran lost access to his Social Security funds when his local credit union merged, disrupting his usual banking services (officials report). He is now seeking alternative support to restore his benefit access. WDBJ7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Virginia Delegate Wendell Walker was appointed on Thursday to the House Select Committee on Advancing Rural and Small Town Health Care to study rural hospital closures and workforce shortages in our area, building on his ongoing effort to improve access to care. WSET
- ➤ The Lynchburg Police Foundation released plans for a new K-9 garden honoring retired Police Chief Ryan Zuidema — the garden will feature a life-size bronze statue with ‘loyalty’ engraved in its base, cost $100,000, and be completed by Spring 2027 adjacent to the existing honor garden at LPD Headquarters.
