GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Department of Public Works announced milling and paving operations on Sandusky Drive from April 28 through May 1 and on Oakmont Circle from April 29 through May 2, with work occurring daily from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane+ flaggers will guide drivers as on-street parking is not allowed while emergency vehicles keep access.  WSET
  • Local officials joined U.S. Rep. John McGuire on Tuesday for a tour of Park View Community Mission on Memorial Avenue—he then took part in a roundtable discussion on food insecurity affecting Lynchburg.  The News & Advance
  • Starting Sunday evening, April 27, through Friday morning, May 2, crews will remove debris and sweep the Lynchburg Expressway from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. (weather permitting). The project will restrict traffic to one lane and may cause minor delays while emergency vehicles maintain access.  City of Lynchburg
  • The City of Lynchburg closed part of Fifth Street from Jackson Street to 903 Fifth Street starting April 24 and will extend the closure through April 29 on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. — the sidewalk at 901 Fifth Street is off limits to pedestrians during these hours.  WFXR TV
  • Today, the Lynchburg Police Department unveiled a new badge that features two local landmarks—the Old City Courthouse and Monument Terrace (honoring fallen officers and veterans)—and will begin using it as the department moves into its new headquarters to mark a renewed commitment to community service.  WFXR TV

  • Today at 5pm, hundreds of runners will participate in the 5K on the Runway at Lynchburg Regional Airport (featuring a unique taxiway route) as proceeds benefit United Way of Central Virginia and its 24 partner agencies (with options for volunteers or spectators available).  WDBJ7
