ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday night, a house fire on Aragon Street was classified as accidental by the Lynchburg Fire Department—neighbor Ken Lamb broke a window to alert the family, allowing them to escape while two pets died. WSET
- ➤ At 10:50 a.m. on April 26, the Lynchburg Fire Department responded to a house fire on the 2300 block of Aragon Street, where heavy smoke and flames forced residents to escape safely while two pets died and a nearby vehicle was damaged. WFXR TV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Michael Lee Perry III, who has been in jail for more than 500 days on charges related to his wife Avriel Hooks’ death, said on a jail phone that he is innocent, that she was not murdered, and he will share his full story at trial on May 19 in Amherst County—he claims the police are mistaken. - ➤ Trial for Fred Wiggington begins today in Amherst County—he is accused of killing his wife Elsie, who disappeared in late June and whose remains were later found under a concrete slab behind a trailer, with the trial expected to last four days. WDBJ7
- ➤ On Sunday at 12:45 p.m., Lynchburg PD arrested a 17-year-old suspect who robbed an adult woman in a public restroom on the 2100 block of Park Avenue by showing what appeared to be a handgun (he was later found with a pellet gun resembling a real firearm) and he now awaits formal charges in juvenile detention. - ➤ 97-year-old Holocaust survivor Ted Brenig spoke at Agudath Sholom Synagogue on Sunday, sharing his journey from fleeing his Austrian home in 1938, surviving internment with fake papers, and learning that his parents were killed in Auschwitz — he said his story drives his duty to stand against injustice and hope that such atrocities are never repeated.
