EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lynchburg-area colleges and universities will host commencement ceremonies this year where government leaders and global advocates will address graduating students. The events are set to highlight diverse expertise from across the community. The News & Advance
- ➤ Central Virginia Community College announced that Gary Harvey, president and managing principal of Architectural Partners, will speak at the upcoming commencement. He is expected to address graduates later this year. The News & Advance
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Train riders in Lynchburg now face a modified schedule as departures shift to 9:41 a.m., 10:57 a.m., and 5:40 p.m. due to Long Bridge construction blocking rail traffic from 8:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.—a change that makes day trips difficult but will allow expanded service by 2030. WSET
- ➤ Appomattox County installed speed cameras along Route 460 toward Lynchburg to protect workers, and daily violations dropped from 3,000 to 20; drivers exceeding 45 mph will face a $100 fine sent by mail until November. WSET
- ➤ Operation (DISS-rupt) began on Interstate 81 yesterday to enforce new traffic measures and alert drivers to upcoming roadwork, which may cause temporary delays. WDBJ7

- ➤ Leaders from the Alzheimer’s Association honored local supporters at an awards event in Lynchburg, with 10 News anchor Abbie Coleman receiving the Voice of Awareness Award for her advocacy and storytelling on Alzheimer’s research. WSLS 10
- ➤ A Hometown Health report showed that rising air pollution affected local residents more than expected, sparking concerns about health risks. Released yesterday, the study is expected to lead officials to review air quality standards (further details are forthcoming). WDBJ7
