COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The annual 100 Mile Yard Sale began Thursday and will run through Sunday on Route 29, drawing bargain hunters to seek vintage finds and treasures along vendors' tables. The event stretches from Amherst to Danville & brings the community together.  WSET
  • Pigg River Community Outreach Day (Saturday, May 2) will offer free food, prizes, and games for residents at a local venue. The event aims to unite neighbors and celebrate community spirit.  WDBJ7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Community School is preparing for its 46th Annual Strawberry Festival Fundraiser to support local programs. The event will take place on campus soon and invite community members to join in various fundraising activities.  WDBJ7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources reminds residents not to approach deer fawns from May through July because mothers leave them alone to avoid attracting predators. If you find an injured or orphaned fawn, call the wildlife conflict helpline (1-855-571-9003) for help.  WSLS 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Greater Lynchburg Transit Company has cut Sunday service this weekend to ease driver shortages and rising costs, and more service reductions may follow as fuel and insurance expenses rise. The board will reassess staffing every 90 days to plan for the upcoming fiscal year.  Cardinal News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A proposed bipartisan bill will let Medicare and Medicaid cover blood tests to detect Alzheimer’s earlier so families have more time to start treatment and plan ahead; the measure has backing from lawmakers including Senator Mark Warner (ASAP Act) and may soon boost early detection for Lynchburg patients.  WSLS 10
  • Lynchburg firefighters revived Shane South on March 15 when his heart stopped — prompt emergency care and a stent helped him recover and be discharged after 48 hours.  WSLS 10
