COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community members gathered today at Monument Terrace in Lynchburg for the 74th Annual Day of Prayer organized by Faith Driven Network+Spirit FM, where they prayed for church, family, government+military, first responders, business and education. Travis Witt said he hopes the event will lead to daily prayer that lifts the community.  WSET

CRIME NEWS

  • Law enforcement in Central Virginia is investigating card skimming devices at Walmart stores and arrested Florin Doroiman—who faces over 20 charges across six localities including Lynchburg—while the Secret Service urged shoppers to check their card readers for signs of skimmers.  WSET
  • Lynchburg Police arrested 25-year-old William Allen for starting a small brush fire in Miller Park on April 30—there were no injuries or property damage—and he is held without bail.  WFXR TV
  • A Lynchburg General District Court judge ruled that 33-year-old Nathaniel Lee Pridemore, charged with multiple felonies including second-degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Cash Gaudio, will go before a grand jury on May 5 after finding probable cause at a preliminary hearing.  The News & Advance

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Since May 1, Creekside Trail west of Freer Loop has been closed for reconstruction of the Boy Scout Bridge and will remain closed until May 10 while city staff has posted warning devices—trail users should avoid the area.  City of Lynchburg
  • Early voting for Virginia’s June Primary begins today—voters can cast ballots in person until June 14, must register by May 27, or request a mail-in ballot by June 6 which must be received by the registrar by June 20. The primary on June 17 will choose candidates for key offices including attorney general and lieutenant governor.  WSLS 10
