Challenged Sports Exchange has served nearly 100 people with disabilities across Central Virginia for over three decades by offering free sports and fun activities that bring the community together.

The nonprofit—founded in 1991—relies on volunteers and local sponsors to support its programs and plans to build a permanent facility.

United Way of Central Virginia lost a $283,000 AmeriCorps grant that was set to fund staffing for a new child care center and expand services at early learning sites—forcing a delay in support for more than 500 children and families.

The group now urges local employers to invest as plans shift the center's opening to spring if new funds arrive.
