ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local gas stations are raising pump prices today as global oil supply concerns from the U.S. – Iran tensions push costs higher. Nearby drivers are advised to expect increased rates at their regular fill-ups.  WDBJ7
  • Gas prices have hit a four-year high in Virginia, now exceeding $4 per gallon because of rising international tensions — local drivers face higher fuel costs as increased US exports keep domestic supply tight. Experts warn that relief might not come soon.  WSLS 10
  • Gas prices are rising amid the US/Iran conflict (with Lynchburg at $4.06, Roanoke at $4.10, and Danville at $4.04 per gallon) as global pressures push local costs higher today.  WDBJ7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local young drivers participated in a street survival program on Sunday, May 3 to learn defensive driving skills plus practice emergency response techniques. Instructors led hands-on sessions designed to boost safety awareness on our streets.  WDBJ7
  • Bedford County will hold a hearing at 6 p.m. Thursday at 311 South Bridge St to discuss redistricting for Forest Elementary due to full enrollment. Lynchburg City Schools will require kindergarten screenings (June 10-12) and University of Lynchburg will offer $3,000 scholarships to Central Virginia Governor’s School graduates this fall.  Cardinal News
  • Local drivers are taking part in the Street Survival program at Salem Civic Center to learn emergency driving skills. Safety marshal Pete Kauffman said the controlled event provides hands-on experience designed to help drivers respond safely after a recent tragedy.  WDBJ7
