- ➤ Eve, a 12-year-old dog from the Lynchburg Humane Society, was euthanized last week at the Danville Area Humane Society after her owners surrendered her plus officials say a misstep in microchip tracking delayed her return and raised questions about shelter communication. WSET
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Daniel Rule, principal at E.C. Glass after 20+ years with Lynchburg City Schools, has accepted the deputy superintendent role with King George County Schools and will begin on July 1. WSET
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Virginia Department of Forestry warned residents that ongoing drought has kept wildfire risks high and several counties have maintained burn bans since early April (including one added on May 5) to restrict outdoor burning amid low humidity and breezy conditions. WDBJ7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ GLTC is hosting a hiring event today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its transfer station on Kemper St as it seeks drivers to restore Sunday bus service after a shortage; applicants with a high school diploma or GED & driving experience are encouraged to apply. WSET
- ➤ Seventeen recruits graduated from the Lynchburg FD Recruit Academy on May 5, completing a rigorous training program for future firefighters — they will soon begin serving the community. WDBJ7
