CRIME NEWS

  • On Wednesday, a preliminary hearing in Lynchburg showed that Nathaniel Pridemore, charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Micah ‘Cash’ Gaudio in September 2024, attempted to escape custody by headbutting a deputy—Gaudio’s family attended as the case moves toward grand jury review.  WSLS 10
  • Three men—Kevin Brown, Jermaine Hawkins, and Jayon Phelps—faced murder charges in connection with the Oct. 8 killing of a Crumbl Cookies manager, with the charges certified on May 7 and the case set to move to a grand jury while one charge against Phelps was dropped.  WSET
  • Lynchburg resident Nathaniel Pridemore has been charged with the fatal shooting of Christina Hamilton, who was found dead on Sept. 30 in the apartment they shared.  The News & Advance
  • Two suspects, Derek Brandon Smith and Lillian Hall Collins, were arrested for breaking and entering a Campbell County storage facility after an investigation starting April 29 linked them to a black sedan, stolen motorcycles, enclosed trailers missing VIN numbers, and heat pumps from Rainbow Forest—authorities are also now seeking a third suspect described as a white female in a real tree type camouflage jacket.  WDBJ7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Registration is now open for summer camps at YMCA Blue Ridge — the programs include full-day adventures, half-day specialties, Kinder, Youth and Cooking camps, and financial assistance is available to help families. The camps will provide children of all ages opportunities to learn and play across several local YMCA sites this summer.  WSLS 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lynchburg City Council held a budget work session on Tuesday where members talked about changing tax rates, raising hotel fees to boost revenue, investing in schools, and spending on a new police headquarters and fire radios. The council postponed the first budget reading to May 27 and urged respectful debate over staff accountability—aiming to cut debt and pay cash for projects.  WSET
  • Lynchburg City Council is accepting applications from residents to serve on the City School Board and will hold a public hearing Tuesday, May 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber (900 Church Street) to receive nominations. The board positions, including an extra vacancy in District II due to a voluntary resignation, will have three-year terms starting July 1.  City of Lynchburg

  • At Texas Roadhouse in Lynchburg, bartender Virginia Lewis used her past paramedic training to help a customer who collapsed on Sunday, and the customer was stable after being taken to Lynchburg General Hospital.  WDBJ7
