  • During National Foster Care Month, WSLS + HopeTree Family Services launch Foster Facts to showcase the Roanoke Valley journey of first-time foster parents. Newlyweds Hannah and Robbie Leslie share how caring for a 4½-year-old boy has changed their lives, with episodes airing every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in May.  WSLS 10

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Comcast and Appalachian Power are in a dispute over pole replacement costs for broadband expansion. The FCC ruled APCo can only charge incremental costs—yet Comcast alleges it is charged 20%-100% of the full cost while seeking a status conference as APCo reviews its filing.  Cardinal News
  • Lynchburg Regional Airport expanded its service after United added flights to Chicago and Washington, D.C. in March, giving passengers one-stop access to over 200 destinations and drawing on community and business support (airport director Cedric Simon noted).  WDBJ7

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Lynchburg Regional Airport announced that new flights will begin later this month, offering local passengers more travel options. Details on routes and times will be released soon.  WDBJ7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Liberty University is set to welcome over 70,000 guests for its 53rd commencement, with 27 ceremonies, a keynote address by Scott Turner and safety measures that include a drone show.  The News & Advance
  • The University of Lynchburg honored five Bonner Leaders from its 20th graduating class for completing multi-year community service, legacy projects and academic work tied to civic engagement. A ceremony celebrated their contributions to the community.  The News & Advance

  • On Monday, the Lynchburg Police Department held a memorial service at its new headquarters honor garden to honor four officers killed in the line of duty and two from nearby regions; officials and colleagues paid tribute to their sacrifice.  WSET
