GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lynchburg Police Department held a solemn ceremony Monday evening during National Police Week to honor five Virginia officers and one police dog who died in the line of duty. Local leaders paid tribute to their sacrifice—reminding us that these heroes gave their lives to keep our community safe. WSET
- ➤ Campbell County requested bids to build and possibly operate a solid waste transfer station that will temporarily store waste until it is taken to a landfill after the Region 2000 facility closes in early 2029. Two board supervisors were chosen to review proposals due by June 4, and a public meeting on a potential site is scheduled for Aug. 11 — the station is planned to be operational by fall. - ➤ Horizon Behavioral Health said it experienced a ransomware attack on March 16th that may have exposed sensitive client data while its cloud-based records and client care were not affected. The agency launched an investigation with top cybersecurity experts and notified law enforcement and impacted clients who received complimentary credit monitoring services — it is now working to strengthen its cybersecurity defenses.
