  • Fifteen-year-old Karis Dryer, Liberty University’s youngest 2026 graduate, earned a bachelor's in elementary education and plans to teach and pursue missions.  The News & Advance
  • At Liberty University, a husband and wife walked the stage together to earn doctorates at the doctoral commencement ceremony, marking a unique academic milestone+ their dual achievement inspires local pride.  WSET
  • Former ABC13 sports director Dennis Carter hosted a scholarship golf tournament at London Downs Golf Course to fund two $1,000 awards for graduating seniors in the greater Lynchburg area. HEALTH NEWS

  • Local patients using GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy have lost significant weight, with some losing over 100 pounds, but doctors warn of risks such as muscle loss. Experts advise regular exercise and proper prescription use as research on long-term effects continues (including caution over non-FDA online versions).  WSET
  • Centra in Lynchburg began using an AI-powered digital scribe in July that listens to provider-patient conversations and turns them into clinical notes automatically. Providers say the tool reduces after-hours work and allows them to review notes for errors.  Cardinal News
  • VDH confirmed that one Virginia traveler from the MV Hondius outbreak is in good health and under close monitoring, with officials noting that fewer than five additional Virginians may be identified (contact tracing ongoing).
