CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A lockdown was imposed at River Ridge Mall Friday after police received calls about a threat from a man involved in a domestic dispute near 11th Street in Lynchburg— the lockdown was later lifted once officers made contact with him. WSET
- ➤ Police responded to a domestic call on May 16 and learned that 32-year-old Xavier Garland threatened to go to River Ridge Mall and harm others—officers later located him on the 1600 block of Shaffer Street and took him into custody before the lockdown was lifted. WFXR TV

- ➤ University of Lynchburg held its commencement on a foggy Thursday morning at Shellenberger Field where CEO and former congressional candidate Gloria Witt urged 350 undergraduates and 447 graduates to dream big and find their unique talents. UL President Alison Morrison-Shetlar added that the campus will always be their home—encouraging them to write bold new chapters as they enter the future. The News & Advance
- ➤ Central Virginia Community College held its 57th Commencement Ceremony on Thursday evening at the Vines Center at Liberty University — 1,317 students received diplomas, certificates, and other credentials. College Registrar Karen Alexander and Bree Oldham, president and CEO of Electronic Design and Manufacturing, encouraged the graduates to embrace new challenges as they move forward. WSET

- ➤ Lynchburg City Council approved a 15-year extension for the Hillcats baseball franchise and removed a city code exception that had stopped the collection of an admissions tax on game tickets sold at Bank of the James Stadium — the change will let the city start collecting tax on these sales going forward.
