  • Local leaders plan to redevelop the 350-acre former Central Virginia Training Center site (across from downtown Lynchburg) into a mixed-use neighborhood while preserving key campus landmarks as community members reflect on its legacy of trusted patient care and dark eugenics history.  Cardinal News
  • United Way of Central Virginia’s 33rd Day of Caring will take place Wednesday in Lynchburg as 550 volunteers sign up to complete about 65 projects + help local nonprofits with tasks like landscaping, painting and cleaning.  WDBJ7

  • Firefighters in Lynchburg face rising heat stress as increasing temperatures push more emergency calls & complicate routine duties. Officials say the heat wave is intensifying work conditions and prompting changes in team protocols.  WDBJ7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The RIFA will vote Monday at 2 p.m. in Room 206 at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research on a performance agreement for the Stack Infrastructure project at Berry Hill—expected to drive over $70B in investment and create 2,500 jobs. Public comments are invited.  WSLS 10

HEALTH NEWS

  • Roads to Recovery, a local nonprofit, is opening a detox center today on Fifth Street in Downtown Lynchburg. The facility will offer eight inpatient beds to safely manage withdrawal (aiming to address the local gap in addiction treatment).  WSET
  • Experts warn Lynchburg residents to be cautious with supplements as too many may stress the liver and kidneys and interact with medications. They advise consulting a provider for third-party tested supplements, especially for pregnant women.  WSLS 10
