Ceremonies across the region (including honor guard observances and local tributes) pay respect to heroes whose sacrifices have long supported our hometowns.

Festival in the Park ended its Memorial Day weekend at Elmwood Park as Johnny Lex and the Allies honored the Bedford Boys (local heroes from Bedford County who lost 19 men at Omaha Beach) with a powerful music tribute that brought local history to life.

Bedford County high schools celebrated 640 graduates on Saturday at Liberty University’s Vines Center as each school held a separate diploma ceremony, honoring a legacy of excellence in education.

Recent rain has slightly improved Smith Mountain Lake’s water levels, which remain about 4.5 feet below full pond today.
