A crowd gathered at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford on Memorial Day, May 25, to honor the fallen despite rain.

Health officials noted that mild winters and a rising deer population have led to increased tick bites and emergency room visits in Lynchburg.

Residents are advised to use insect repellent and wear long sleeves and pants when outdoors.
