COMMUNITY NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 27, the Lynchburg Police Department opened its new headquarters at 3405 Odd Fellows Road—designed to better serve the public—while its former location at 905 Court Street is now closed to visitors.  WFXR TV
  • Lynchburg City Council met late Tuesday into early Wednesday and debated lowering the property tax rate that currently is 89 cents per $100. The council approved a 4-3 vote directing staff to prepare a budget proposal—featuring an equalization rate of 76.7 cents per $100—that is due by July 1.  WSET
  • Lynchburg Regional Airport will begin a full rehabilitation of Runway 4-22 on June 1 — a project expected to run through August with further work planned this fall. The work will mill the existing pavement, correct grade, and upgrade LED lighting — which will lead to adjusted flight schedules for commercial and general aviation operations.  WSLS 10
  • The City of Lynchburg is hosting an informational meeting today at Oakwood Country Club at 3409 Link Road from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.—community members will review proposals to improve the Link Road Intersection by adding a dedicated right-turn lane, new sidewalks, ADA-compliant curb ramps, an updated traffic signal, and pedestrian push buttons.  WSLS 10
  • Tuesday's city council meeting saw local business leaders challenge the ongoing chaos by warning that the disorder could drive investments to nearby Altavista — they call for a clear plan to restore community confidence.  WSET
  • The City of Lynchburg is closing one lane at 6201 Fort Avenue today from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for Columbia Gas work—motorists face minor delays and should drive carefully.  WFXR TV
