COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Angels of Assisi and the Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection urge locals to adopt as dog adoptions slow while 265 dogs have been admitted in the Roanoke Valley. The Adoption Center is open daily (12 to 6), offering full veterinary care with spay/neuter, microchipping, vaccines, and monthly preventatives.  WSLS 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • WDBJ7 was named the Murrow Award Winner for Overall Excellence in the small market category and its anchor Logan Sherrill won a regional award for Excellence in Writing. The station will compete against 13 others for the national honor later in 2026.  WDBJ7
  • WSET has received a Regional Edward R. Murrow award in the Digital category (announced by ABC13) to honor its digital news work.  WSET

EDUCATION NEWS

  • School divisions have announced free summer meals for families during the summer break; breakfast and lunch will be served at designated pick-up spots in the area.  WDBJ7
  • Lynchburg introduced its first-ever bookmobile today, a $275,000 mobile library funded entirely by local donations that will serve community members of all ages. The bookmobile is set to visit underserved neighborhoods throughout the city.  The News & Advance

HEALTH NEWS

  • Johnson Health Center is launching mobile healthcare services in Brookneal — a community with few medical and dental providers — to improve local access.  WSET
  • Collaborative Health welcomes patients at its new Healthplex in the former Liberty University Online building on Graves Mill Road and Nationwide Drive — offering primary care, specialty, imaging, lab and counseling services — and will fully transition by the end of July.  WSET

  • Garcia’s Bistro is featured in the Hometown Eats series this May, highlighting its inviting menu and warm atmosphere for local diners + it joins other neighborhood favorites in showcasing Lynchburg’s vibrant culinary scene.  WDBJ7
