- ➤ Devils Backbone Brewing Company partnered with Blue Ridge Area Food Bank to launch the Fresh Food Express van to help deliver fresh produce to families in need. The refrigerated van will make more frequent trips to underserved communities and small food pantries until June 30—supporting the Food Bank’s aim to distribute over 33 million pounds of food by the end of the fiscal year. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting Monday, June 2 through Monday, June 9, milling and paving work will occur on Jefferson Street from Eighth Street to where Jefferson and Commerce meet near Seventh Street from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays as weather permits, with one lane open and on-street parking banned; on Federal Street, work will run from Tuesday, June 3 to Friday, June 13 on the stretch from McKinley Street to the Fifth Street Roundabout with one lane in service and flaggers present so drivers should expect minor delays. - ➤ The Department of Public Works said a temporary lane closure occurred Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 6201 Fort Avenue for Columbia Gas maintenance work — flagging operations managed traffic and ensured emergency vehicles had access. WSET
- ➤ Lynchburg leaders held a meeting at Oakwood Country Club Thursday night to share a $3 million proposal to revamp the Link Road and Boonsboro Road intersection. The plan, funded equally by state and local money, calls for expanding Link Road, adding a right turn lane and improved crosswalks—construction bids will be released in 2027 and work is expected to finish in 2028. - ➤ Lynchburg City Council voted Tuesday to direct staff to draft a fiscal year 2026 budget using a real estate tax equalization rate of 76.7 cents per $100 so members can see which services may be cut if approved. City staff will present the scenarios at a work session on June 10 — a measure that follows earlier proposals to adjust the lodging tax rate. The News & Advance
