Bedford County Public Schools held groundbreaking ceremonies Tuesday for auditorium and canopy upgrades at Liberty and Staunton River high schools.

Construction for both projects will last 12 months—allowing students to use the Susie G. Gibson Science and Technology Center while work continues.

On May 27, 2025, Lynchburg business owners told city council that aggressive and divisive conduct was hurting local growth—many said the behavior undermined efforts to fund schools, libraries, and public safety.

They urged the council to work together and restore trust so new projects could move forward.

On May 29, Homeland Security released a list labeling several localities as sanctuary jurisdictions, and local officials in Lynchburg and nearby areas said the list is mistaken due to errors in jail paperwork—officials are working with federal agencies to correct the error.

May is High Blood Pressure Education Month, and local health agencies plan to share tips on reducing high blood pressure—community events and free screenings may be offered during the month.
