- ➤ The SML Marine Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department marked its 50th anniversary Saturday in Moneta by cutting the ribbon on a new $300,000 building and christening a fire boat that cost over $500,000 — they plan to raise funds for a new dock to keep their boats close to the station. WSLS 10

- ➤ The Bedford Fire Department reported no injuries from a vehicle fire Saturday, May 31 — heavy flames from the engine compartment at Murphy Gas Station on 1100 East Lynchburg Salem Turnpike were quickly extinguished before affecting nearby structures. WDBJ7
- ➤ The Bedford County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a vehicle fire that started at Murphy’s gas station on 1100 East Lynchburg Salem Turnpike around 12 p.m. Saturday — crews quickly controlled the blaze before it spread. WSLS 10

- ➤ A Lynchburg woman was sentenced to 8 years on charges of abuse/neglect and embezzlement, court officials said. The News & Advance

- ➤ Fifty-eight job seekers gathered at Staunton River High School on Thursday for the Moneta Job Fair organized by Bedford County Public Schools, the Bedford County Office of Economic Development, and Virginia Career Works—25 companies from manufacturing, health care and government offered resume help and on-site interviews. Principal Darcy Parker said the event was created after learning local graduates struggled to find work, aiming to make job opportunities more accessible in the Staunton River zone.
