- ➤ Police responded at 3:08 a.m. Sunday to a 7-Eleven on the 2300 block of Bedford Avenue where two men robbed the store with a handgun and then fled on foot—investigators released surveillance photos and are asking the public for tips. WSLS
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Brookville High School Principal Christine White will honor the class of 2025 by urging graduates to 'go put it in drive' at the Liberty University Vines Center Friday evening. Of the 273 graduates, seven will join the military, 59 will enter the workforce, 12 will attend a trade school, 75 will enroll in a two-year college, and 98 will pursue a four-year degree (school officials provided these details). - ➤ Genworth Financial Inc. is in discussions with the city about selling its campus on Albert Lankford Drive next to the new police headquarters—if a deal is reached, it will lease back part of the property to keep a local office. - ➤ Gov. Glenn Youngkin will speak at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford on June 6 — marking the 81st anniversary of D-Day. The News & Advance
- ➤ In a joint statement released Friday, Senators Warner and Kaine condemned the Labor Department's decision to close contractor-run Job Corps centers nationwide — including the Old Dominion Job Corps in Amherst County — saying it will cut crucial job training for thousands of young people and nearly 13,000 jobs. The department will begin a phased pause in operations by June 30 to support current students in their transition. The News & Advance
