CULTURE NEWS

  • NokeFest will celebrate music and the arts in Lynchburg — featuring live music and art displays — as local talent gathers for the annual festival.  WDBJ7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lynchburg City Schools will offer free meals for all children this summer as part of USDA’s 2025 Summer Food Service Program, serving meals on a first-come, first-serve basis (children must remain onsite while eating). The program will operate at various local sites including All Nations Community Church and Boys & Girls Club with set service dates and times.  The News & Advance
  • Today the Lynchburg City School Board approved a budget that gives teachers raises — improved benefits. The board said the decision will support educators and strengthen city school programs.  Cardinal News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After 50 years of tours, the Natural Bridge Caverns are closed for renovations by Natural Bridge State Park. The park is working with experts to replace unsafe features—planning to reopen the caverns with guided tours and educational programs that will benefit the local economy.  WDBJ7
  • Scientists reported that the American shad population in the James River has collapsed over decades because dams, pollution and invasive species have made spawning difficult — officials say water withdrawals and climate change will keep efforts to boost the fish population from succeeding. Local experts warn that the historic species may remain at very low levels in the future.  The News & Advance

  • Health officials announced plans to increase PTSD support for veterans and will offer counseling and treatment programs soon. Local health providers will work to make these services easier to access for veterans.  WDBJ7
