Lynchburg’s Awareness Garden on Blackwater Creek Trail will expand this summer with new parking, an improved entrance and updated pathways as part of a local campaign.

A local artist will create 8-by-8 metal tree sculptures—leaves can be purchased and engraved, with funds supporting the Awareness Foundation.

The Bedford Boys were soldiers from Bedford who served in Company A, 1st Battalion, 116th Infantry Regiment of the 29th Infantry Division during World War II.

They stormed the Normandy beaches on June 6th, 1944 and 19 men died on Omaha Beach (the town suffered the nation’s highest per capita loss) (their sacrifice is still a vital part of local history).

A resident was injured trying to put out a house fire at 1100 block of Lakeview Ln early Thursday morning—firefighters said the injured person refused treatment and that others fled safely as crews spent two hours extinguishing the blaze while investigating its cause.

Five local businesses were chosen as winners in the final year of the Launch LYH program to help them start in downtown Lynchburg.

Each business receives a $20,000 grant and plans to open within the next 18 months as part of a competitive process that saw over 80 entries.

The Lynchburg City School Board approved the fiscal year 2026 budget for schools on Tuesday with a total of $119.08 million and a $2.7 million increase in the city’s contribution—actions designed to secure teacher contracts as city council debates its budget.

Interim Superintendent Ben Copeland said his team will adjust the budget if city council cuts the proposed school funding.
