- ➤ CASA of Central Virginia said 117 children in its area — including those in Lynchburg, Appomattox, Amherst, Bedford, Campbell and Nelson counties — are waiting for volunteer advocates to help them in the court system. - ➤ The Old Dominion Job Corps center in Monroe is closing after nearly 50 years, leaving over 130 employees and 78 students, including 22 from Lynchburg, in need of new jobs and training as federal plans to pause centers run by contractors lead to an orderly transition. Virginia Career Works is enrolling affected students into Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act programs and is coordinating with local colleges to match skills with job openings—efforts that will help ease the changeover.
