- ➤ GasBuddy's survey of 4,081 stations found Virginia gasoline prices fell 5.7 cents per gallon last week to an average of $2.88 on Monday, and prices were 6.9 cents lower than a month ago and 45.3 cents lower than a year ago + nationally, gasoline prices dropped 1.8 cents to $3.07. WSET
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Councilman Faraldi proposed eliminating the car tax for vehicles under $20,000 during Tuesday’s council work session to reduce taxes for Lynchburg families — the plan would extend relief from 5,500 to 45,500 vehicles and shift the tax burden to non-residents — and received support from fellow councilmembers and the mayor as part of the effort to balance the FY 2026 budget. - ➤ Lynchburg City Council remains deadlocked on the real estate tax rate as members debate whether to keep the current rate of .89 cents per $100 of assessed value or lower it based on recent home reassessments. The council will hold a public hearing and vote on the lodging tax Tuesday evening and must pass the 2026 budget by July 1. WSET
- ➤ Milling and paving on Westerly Drive (Langhorne Road to Yorktown Avenue) will run from June 10 to June 13 at 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., restricting one lane and banning on-street parking. Operations on Atherholt Road (from Yorktown Avenue to 2405 Atherholt Road) will run from today until June 16 on weekdays at the same hours, with flaggers in place and minor delays expected.
