- ➤ On Tuesday evening, Lynchburg Fire Department rescued four residents from a burning apartment at Lakeside Plaza Apartments off Lakeside Dr. — one person was taken to a hospital with minor injuries as five apartments sustained damage from unattended cooking. WDBJ7

- ➤ A new Wawa building is in construction on Wards Road near the Cookout in Lynchburg — City Development Director Tom Martin confirmed there is no set timeline for its opening but work is already underway at the site. WSET
- ➤ A new Delta Star facility in Lynchburg held its ribbon cutting yesterday, beginning an expansion that created 200—250 jobs and will add 300 more as it manufactures transformers—key components for powering hospitals and schools. Dozens attended the ceremony at the 100,000 square foot plant as the company plans further growth in the coming years. WSET

- ➤ The Lynchburg Police Department will open its new 96,000 square foot, $50 million headquarters on Odd Fellows Road June 27—bringing all staff together under one roof to improve crime fighting and support training. WDBJ7
- ➤ At Tuesday night's meeting—Lynchburg City Council shot down proposals to raise the lodging tax to 8.5% with a room rate of $3, keeping them at 6.5% and $1—and voted 4 to 3 to increase the real estate tax to $1.025 per $100; officials said the change will aid city funding as the council finalizes the budget by July 1.
