BUSINESS NEWS

  • Church Street Bodega—located at 725 Church St.—opened today in downtown Lynchburg to offer drinks, snacks, and local art. Owner Casey Clark said the store will host a ribbon cutting at 9:45 a.m. and serve extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays.  WSET
  • Delta Star hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday morning to mark the opening of Delta Iron Works—a 100,000-square-foot metal fabrication facility on Mayflower Drive that expands its manufacturing capacity in Lynchburg. CEO Jason Greene said the expansion and a recent $35 million investment will add 300 new jobs and support growing power needs.  The News & Advance

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Councilman Chris Faraldi proposed eliminating the car tax for vehicles valued under $20,000 and the council approved a plan to craft the 2026 budget based on this change—supporting both homeowners and renters, while raising the property tax rate from 89 cents to $1.025 per $100. A public hearing will be held on June 23 to review the proposal before the new fiscal year begins on July 1.  The News & Advance
  • Lynchburg City Council is finishing interviews today with 17 candidates for four School Board seats as it works on the budget and livestreams the process—members will vote on the appointments on June 24.  WSET
  • Lynchburg City Council voted 4+3 Tuesday evening to direct staff to build a 2026 budget that will end the car tax by raising the real estate tax rate to $1.025 per $100 of assessed value and cutting $1.4 million in spending. The proposal aims to ease the tax burden on middle-class families and will be voted on at the next meeting on June 24.  WSET

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Monday, a stray cat in Lynchburg tested positive for rabies after it attacked a woman near Hollins Mill Road—health officials urge pet owners to update their pet vaccinations and seek medical care if exposed. Residents are advised to avoid feeding stray animals and report any bites or scratches to the city health department.  WSLS 10
