CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A jury began hearing the case against Travon Brunson, who is accused of fatally shooting Tajuan Johnson in a parking lot dispute outside Mizumi Japanese Restaurant in April last year — witnesses were heard on day one and the defense will present evidence later today. WSET
- ➤ Lynchburg police arrested 15 people after a brawl broke out at an apartment complex on June 16—authorities said security footage is being reviewed. WDBJ7
- ➤ Lynchburg police issued an Amber Alert on June 16th for a 4-year-old boy—residents are urged to contact authorities with any information. WDBJ7

- ➤ Campers from BOCO Camp Leo visited Cave Hill Dairy Farm on June 16 to learn about dairy operations and local agriculture — they engaged in hands-on activities that explained the farm's daily practices. WDBJ7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lynchburg City Council is considering a plan in the proposed FY26 budget to remove the car tax for vehicles under $20,000, which would affect about 45,500 vehicles and make Lynchburg the first locality in Virginia to do so. Council members will vote on the proposal next Tuesday — they plan to offset lost revenue by increasing the real estate tax. WSLS 10
- ➤ The Lynchburg City Council will hold a public hearing on June 23 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall, Council Chamber, 900 Church Street to get public input on a proposed real property tax increase. The proposal reflects a 12.9 percent rise in assessed property values and would raise the tax rate from $0.767 to $1.025 per $100—an effective increase of 33.64 percent with the overall city budget set to grow by 8.2 percent.
