Local community members are fighting to keep the Lynchburg Library open — leaders and advocates are debating funding and plans to prevent its closure.

Discussions have raised concerns about maintaining access to vital community resources.

The Region 2000 Services Authority voted on Wednesday to raise the tipping fee in preparation for the landfill closure — the decision is set to offset costs as the facility winds down.

Casa Nueva, a new event venue converted from a 1940s Art Deco dry cleaner, will open July 12 near the stadium on Fort Avenue (Erica and Daryl Calfee of Penny Lane Properties) after extensive renovations cleared decades-old items.

The venue (which can host up to 200 guests) will host weddings and private events as part of a series of upcoming developments downtown.
