  • Cardinal News announced that Emma Malinak has started full-time reporting in Lynchburg thanks to support from Report for America. The newsroom will host an open house on July 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Flour District to welcome her and rally local backing for continued coverage.  Cardinal News

  • Packaging Corporation of America announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase Greif Inc.'s containerboard business in Amherst County for $1.8 billion.  The News & Advance

CRIME NEWS

  • A man was injured early Sunday morning on the 700 block of Madison Street when an unknown suspect fired multiple shots at a rideshare pickup (3:17 a.m.), and investigators said his injuries were not life-threatening and he was treated and released from Lynchburg General Hospital (no ongoing threat was reported).  WSLS 10
  • A man was injured in a shooting in Lynchburg yesterday — police say they are investigating the incident.  WDBJ7
  • Lynchburg police responded early Sunday morning to a report of shots fired on Madison Street—believing the incident was targeted with no known threat to the community.  WSET

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At age 84, Don Green directs the Napoleon Hill Foundation from UVA-Wise as he expands his Keys to Success program—which offers free online courses to high schoolers in 10 counties and two cities and aims to help 1,000 students by 2027—and he has raised over $4 million in scholarships and support through local partnerships.  Cardinal News

  • Tuesday, Lynchburg officials will hold three meetings starting at 3 p.m. at City Hall as the Physical Development Committee reviews a cell tower lease proposal and park open space plans, a work session at 4 p.m. considers new rules for meeting conduct, and a 7 p.m. session will review spending and meeting dates — all following a series of long budget debates.  Cardinal News
