- ➤ Woods Farms is preparing for its fall season and is finalizing its plans for seasonal activities — the farm expects to welcome local visitors later this year. WDBJ7
- ➤ Reporter Emma Malinak—who graduated from Washington & Lee in May—began working for Cardinal News in Lynchburg on July 7 and brought experience from covering challenging stories, including last summer’s flooding and a fast-paced rowing event in Vermont. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Lynchburg Police responded after reports of shots fired on July 6 at 3:17 a.m. in the (700 block of Madison Street) when a suspect fired rounds at a female rideshare driver picking up a rider, leaving the driver unharmed and the rider with a non-life-threatening wound (treated at Lynchburg General Hospital) while investigators believe the attack was targeted and poses no further threat. - ➤ Bedford County deputies arrested fugitive Roger Stephen Tolley after a pursuit on July 5 ended in a crash on Gus W Nicks Blvd. NE near Thrasher Park—Tolley was charged on a West Virginia warrant and with felony eluding law enforcement. WDBJ7
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ GasBuddy reported that gasoline prices in Virginia fell 9.9 cents per gallon over the last week, reaching $3.03 per gallon on Monday — a price that is 14.9 cents higher than last month and 34.9 cents lower than a year ago. The national average dropped by 5.3 cents per gallon to $3.09 on Monday. WSET

- ➤ Amherst County Public Schools will host its annual Pack the Bus School Supply Drive on August 2 from 8:00 a.m. & 2:00 p.m. at Walmart in Madison Heights to collect classroom supplies for local students and families. WSET

- ➤ Spotted Lanternflies have begun their summer invasion in Lynchburg as many are now appearing as adults, according to extension agent Scott Baker. He said the pests will be a nuisance through the summer until cooler weather helps reduce their numbers — they cause little harm to local trees and gardens. WSET
