- ➤ Marines of all ages gathered at a Lynchburg studio this week to record the Marine Hymn and continue a tradition that began 30 years ago after their breakfasts at Cracker Barrel. The group includes 96-year-old Sergeant Dan Villarial and other veterans who celebrated their shared history and patriotic spirit. WSET
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Traquan Waller pleaded guilty to charges from a home invasion in Appomattox and a high-speed chase ending in Lynchburg, and he was sentenced to 18 years with a $1,000 restitution requirement—his gang affiliation was noted—while trials for the other suspects remain pending. WSET
- ➤ Police arrested a 17-year-old in Campbell County in connection with the May shooting death of Zaykeese Brown — the juvenile is charged with second-degree murder, burglary, and other felony offenses and is held at the Lynchburg Regional Juvenile Detention Center pending trial. WFXR TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At Tuesday's meeting, Councilman Martin Misjuns introduced a motion to remove language from the real estate tax ordinance that he said allowed a 'magic tax increase' by avoiding an annual vote. The council debated the issue during fiscal year 2026 budget talks and voted 4–3 to reject the motion—leaving the new rate in place amid concerns over rising assessments. The News & Advance
